Great Falls, Maryland

At Great Falls National Park in Maryland, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. It's a surprise for many of the people that live in the DC area since they've not been there. We visit a couple times each year.

I had an evening free without family and it was sooo tempting just to pop in a movie or play a video game but instead I painted this from a photo of the Falls. It was much more rewarding than a movie.

I love it, it has that Hudson River Valley Painters style Feel of a misty atmosphere of filtered light and color. I want it on my livingroom wall!
